Contracting for Content in a Digital World

Friday, June 23, 2006, 8:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.

This preconference explores the forces and competing interests impacting contracts and licenses between libraries and their business partners. Eminent panelists representing diverse perspectives will air difficult issues, e.g., rights of content owners vs. users; licensing standardization; pricing; and more. Discussion will address digital content contracted both by and from libraries; and consider the forces at work in Congress, the courts, and international bodies that influence contracts for digital content. The program promises to shed new light on issues facing libraries, publishers and aggregators and foster improved understanding.

Greenstone Open Source Digital Library System Implementation and Customization

Friday, June 23, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Greenstone digital library software is a free, open source system that enables libraries to create, present, and maintain their digital collections. This preconference will focus on how to get your digital library up and running and ways to customize Greenstone so that it best suites your needs and vision for your collection.

Internet Culture: What Do We Know about User Behavior?

You are cordially invited to the LITA President's program featuring Cathy DeRosa and John B. Horrigan. The program will take place Sunday, June 25, 2006, 4–5, following the LITA Awards Reception.

We're here. Where are our users? What does research data tell us about the evolution of the internet and where we need to be. What is the impact of the internet on our library users’ behavior? How do we get our collections and services before them? Join Cathy DeRosa and John B. Horrigan for a discussion of their research and what we need to know and act upon.

The LITA Happy Hour will be held at the Wolfe Restaurant, on Saturday, June 24, 2006, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. The Wolfe Restaurant is located in the New Orleans Marriott at the Convention Center (859 Convention Center Boulevard).
