National Forum Planning Committee

Charge

To work with the LITA office and the LITA executive committee (serving as the steering committee for the forum and liaison to other key program committees) to plan, organize, and produce an annual event. The purpose of the event is to highlight current and emerging technologies in libraries and to provide a venue for people involved or interested in library technology to discuss issues. The 2012 national forum will be held October 3-7 in Columbus, OH.

Composition

The National Forum Planning Committee typically consists of about 15 members, appointed from LITA membership. Committee service begins 18 month prior to the Forum and concludes the December immediately following the Forum.

Origin

The LITA National Forum Planning Committee is charged with creating and implementing the Forum annually.  Now in its 14th year, the LITA National Forum is a 3-day educational event featuring preconferences, keynote, concurrent, and poster sessions that explore leading-edge technologies and their applications in all types of libraries.

Get Involved

LITA values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on this committee. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee, be able to participate in Committee meetings when scheduled, e.g.,  Annual Conferences,  Midwinter Meetings,  or other times of the year as needed and, be able to contribute to the activities of the committee.

Express your interest in serving on this or other committees by filling out the application form.   Generally, appointments take place once a year, during the spring. Committee service usually begins following Annual Conference, about July 1, for two year terms.  Exceptions to this include the LITA National Forum Planning Committee (18 months before the Forum through the December after the Forum), the Nominating Committee (18 months before the election through the election) and, the Awards and Scholarships committees (one year terms).
