Announcing the 2025 Best Graphic Novels for Adults

The 2025 BGNA Top Ten List features such titles as: Between Two Sounds: Arvo Pärt's Journey to His Musical Language, Confession, Dogs and Punching Bags, Ginseng Roots: A Memoir, Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theater, Helen of Wyndhorn, Love Languages, More Weight: A Salem Story, Talking to My Father's Ghost: An Almost True Story, Trans History: A Graphic Novel: From Ancient Times to the Present Day.

Announcing the 2025 Best Graphic Novels for Children

The 2025 BGNC Top Ten List features such titles as: Deepwater Creek, Ghost Boys, Oasis, One Crazy Summer, The Cartoonists Club, and Fresh Start.

Announcing the RRT x GNCRT Collaboration Core List

The list features 106 titles and is divided into five sections: Juvenile Graphic Novels for Elementary and Middle School; Young Adult Graphic Novels for High School, subdivided into fiction and nonfiction; and Adult Graphic Novels, subdivided into fiction and nonfiction. It includes 2025 titles such as: “A Song for You and I” by K. O’Neill; “Angelica and the Bear Prince” by Trung Le Nguyen; and “It Rhymes with Takei” by George Takei, Harmony Becker, Steven Scott, Justin Eisinger, José Villarrubia, and Nathan Widick; as well as older reprints such as “Hothead Paisan: Homicidal Lesbian Terrorist” by Diane DiMassa with and introduction by Sarah Schulman and an interview by Jay Graham; and “Stuck Rubber Baby, 25th Anniversary Edition” by Howard Cruse with an introduction by Alison Bechdel.

Inaugural Outstanding Comics Awards

“I am very proud of the committee’s hard work and our selections. The opportunity to uplift excellent comics for children with this inaugural award is an honor,” said Outstanding Comics Award Children’s chair Jennie Law. “Our winners and honorees represent the wide range of storytelling that is possible in comics.”

"In this inaugural year for the award, the selection process was extremely competitive. The committee felt it was essential to choose titles that were truly outstanding to set a high precedent for the future. The entire Young Adult selection committee is honored to be a part of this milestone year. As comics librarians, our primary goal is to connect deserving creators and their amazing stories with readers from any age or background” said committee chair Micki Waldrop.

“We looked at so many incredible titles over the year. The books we chose as winners and honor titles went above and beyond, using the graphic novel format in unique and interesting ways. I’m so honored to be a part of this first year of awards, and I hope we’re able to get these books in front of a lot more eyes because they deserve it,” said committee chair Leslie Flynn.
