Inaugural Outstanding Comics Awards
“I am very proud of the committee’s hard work and our selections. The opportunity to uplift excellent comics for children with this inaugural award is an honor,” said Outstanding Comics Award Children’s chair Jennie Law. “Our winners and honorees represent the wide range of storytelling that is possible in comics.”
"In this inaugural year for the award, the selection process was extremely competitive. The committee felt it was essential to choose titles that were truly outstanding to set a high precedent for the future. The entire Young Adult selection committee is honored to be a part of this milestone year. As comics librarians, our primary goal is to connect deserving creators and their amazing stories with readers from any age or background” said committee chair Micki Waldrop.
“We looked at so many incredible titles over the year. The books we chose as winners and honor titles went above and beyond, using the graphic novel format in unique and interesting ways. I’m so honored to be a part of this first year of awards, and I hope we’re able to get these books in front of a lot more eyes because they deserve it,” said committee chair Leslie Flynn.
