Fabulous Feds

The Vogelweh Library in Germany welcomes a new reference librarian, Travis Schaben, at the end of June. Travis, a recent MLS graduate, was previously a web designer in Washington state, but has also worked in the University of Florida Smathers Library. Travis will be a fabulous new addition to the library staff and the Kaiserslautern Military Community.

Kristina Bobe was hired to work as an Outreach Librarian for GPO’s Library Services & Content Management Division in the Office of Education and Outreach. Kristina began her career at GPO on February 1, 2010, one week before the Snowpocalypse. She is tasked with assessing depository library operations in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). Additionally, she provides education and training to library coordinators in over 1,200 libraries across the country that participate in the program. As a former depository coordinator herself, Kristina understands the unique challenges and rewards of the FDLP.

David Walls is the new Preservation Librarian for GPO’s Library Services and Content Management Division. David comes to GPO after twelve years as a preservation librarian at Yale University. David is tasked with developing a comprehensive collection management life cycle plan for the Federal Depository library program and developing preservation services for depository libraries.

Shilo Smith, Reference Librarian for FL4814, MacDill AFB Library, was recognized as the 2009 Base Level Force Development Flight Specialist of the Year. The library was thrilled to have her recognized at the installation level for her professionalism, hard work and dedication.

Sharon Lenius retired in March 1010. Ms. Lenius served as the Manager of the Information Resource Center, National Guard Bureau located in Arlington, Virginia. She can be reached in retirement at leniussa@gmail.com.

Beatrice Nichols, formerly Library Director, Harriotte B Smith Library, USMC Camp Lejeune, NC has accepted a position at Martin Army Community Hospital, Ft. Benning, GA. Her new position is Medical Sciences Librarian and Information Management Administration.

Fran Perros was named the State Department Librarian in April of this year. Fran succeeds Elaine Cline, who retired in December. Fran was the most recent recipient of the FAFLRT Distinguished Service award.

Ron Clowney passed away on May 22 after a long battle with kidney failure. Although Ron’s most recent role was as ProQuest Sales Vice President in North America, many Federal Librarians will remember him for his long service as ProQuest Federal Sales Manager. He will also be remembered for his strong support of FAFLRT and particularly his support, through ProQuest, of the Adelaide del Frate award, which ProQuest continues to sponsor.
