Federal Librarian Winter 2009
Greetings From the President
Large ALA Annual Conference schedule book. Thank you for your input to discussion on printing the large Annual Conference schedule book. I sent comments up the ALA chain. Submissions included creative ideas for reducing costs, anecdotes about tossing the book, habits of the organized ones who plan before traveling, reasons for continuing tangible distribution, raised eyebrows as to how 20,000 people would have computer access, and several inquiries about the loss of advertising revenue and vendor reaction to such a decision.
Nominating Committee & Elections. FAFLRT is an incredible group! Before I ran for office, I hadn’t a clue as to the breadth and depth of talent in our membership. If you haven’t served in an office yet, I would heartily encourage you to begin thinking about it. Feel free to email me with any questions (nfaget@gpo.gov). You may want to hold an office (looks great on your resume!) or you might want to help for a couple of months on a short-term project (Nominating Committee).
FAFLRT Web Page Usability. Can you find things such as the feedback form to submit comments? the FAFLRT President’s Blog to keep up with what’s new? or the Careers in Federal Libraries group to join the hundreds of folks collaborating there? Please give us some feedback

ALA 2009 Midwinter Conference. FAFLRT will hold a board/committee/membership meeting at midwinter on Sunday, January 25, 2008 from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m. We’ll provide a continental breakfast, so plan to enjoy some java and a bagel while we chat about the upcoming year.
FAFLRT Virtual Meeting ALA is eager to support virtual meetings by allowing use of their OPAL room. Thus far, I have been unsuccessful in scheduling use of the room, but look for news in the New Year.
More Effective Communication. Not all FAFLRT members are subscribed to the FAFLRT list. The Federal Librarian newsletter is not currently emailed to members. Most members don’t know they can subscribe to an RSS feed from the web page. We’ll be working over the next few months to improve dissemination.
