Teaching Youth Ethics through Reference Interactions

Reference interactions offer valuable learning moments to teach young people ethical information behavior contextually and just-in-time based on their own information needs. This webinar provides guidance and scenarios on integrating ethical instruction when helping youth do research and other information tasks.

By the end of this webinar, the participant will be able to:

• Identify ethical issues in reference interactions
• Explain how to conduct research ethically
• Explain digital citizenship as it relates to reference instruction
• Suggest ways to instruct youth during reference interactions.

Dr. Lesley Farmer, Professor at California State University (CSU) Long Beach, coordinated the Teacher Librarianship program, and was named as the university's Outstanding Professor. She also manages the CSU ICT Literacy Project. Her most current books are Fake News in Context (2021, Routledge), and Reference and Information Services and Services for Children and Young Adults (2022, Rowman & Littlefield)
