Best of Core Forum: Integrating Linked Data into Library Workflows

eLearning

As linked data becomes more of a reality for the library community, OCLC has worked with libraries around the world to better understand how data, tools, and services can help integrate linked data

Description: As linked data becomes more of a reality for the library community, OCLC has worked with libraries around the world to better understand how data, tools, and services can help integrate linked data into existing workflows and provide a clear path to transition to linked data. In this presentation, we will talk about insights from those libraries, the linked data work OCLC has done over the past few years to help with this integration and transition, and new linked data native tools and services we are developing for future library work.

This webinar was previously presented in-person as a session at the 2024 Core Forum. We are hosting this webinar, with the session adapted and presented live as a virtual event, to extend its reach.

Learning Outcomes:

During this webinar, attendees will:

  • Learn insight from libraries integrating linked data;
  • Review new processes with this specific integration and transition; and
  • Discuss new linked data tools and future library work.

Who Should Attend: Technical service librarians and catalogers interested in learning about how to start integrating linked data into current metadata workflows, as well as librarians interested in exploring the future of using BIBFRAME in cataloging.

Presenters:

Jeff Mixter is a senior product manager and part of OCLC's Metadata and Digital Services product division. He manages OCLC's linked data products, applications, and services. Jeff holds Bachelor's Degrees in History and German from The Ohio State University as well as Master's Degrees in Library Information Science and Information Architecture/Knowledg
