Speakers
Sue Ann Miller, Ed. D., originally from Pennsylvania, has a lifelong passion for libraries and reading. She was instrumental in forming the Friends organization for the Lakewood Ranch (LWR) Library in 2018, recognizing the need for fundraising and advocacy before the library was built. Sue’s personal journey with libraries encompasses research for her degrees, leisure reading, and continuous learning. As a retired elementary school teacher, reading specialist, and supervisor of reading and language arts, she highly values the library’s early learning programs and materials for children.
Dana B. Fleming grew up in Alabama, where she had the privilege to be raised in a home full of books and taken regularly to the libraries in the communities where she lived. After graduating from Birmingham-Southern College with a degree in art history, Dana worked in a range of nonprofits in art, domestic violence, and education. She is also an art teacher, and one of her favorite places to teach art was in the Children and Youth Department of the Garland County Library in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she shared her love of art and reading with young patrons for several years.
Nicky Pownall is the Adult Services Coordinator at Tye Preston Memorial Library in Canyon Lake, Texas. Prior to this position, Nicky volunteered at the library for 6 months and gained a deep appreciation for the essential work that volunteers and Friends do to support library operations, awareness, and funding. She worked with the Friends of Tye Preston Memorial Library on branding and marketing for select large projects and programs, including their month-long Canyon Lake Reads series, Taste & Talent gala in conjunction with the Canyon Lake Art Guild, and multiple Big Give fundraising drives.
