Talking about issues related to racial justice is difficult in today's political climate. Given the uptick of reported incidents of racism that students of color are experiencing in schools, alongside recent developments with state laws, educational policies and instructional practices connected to anti-racism and equity, this webinar will focus on children's literature that supports racial literacy development.

This four-week YALSA online course will introduce those who work with teens and graphic novels to best practices, including an overview of graphic novel descriptors and assorted examples; graphic literacy and text literacy; and bibliographic issues such as selection, access, and marketing.

Libraries have long embraced their role in the summer learning landscape, and more and more are adding in critical out of school time learning that align to 21st Century Learning Skills, Common Core State Standards or even Next Generation Science Standards.
