Educational Requirements for Becoming a Librarian
A Master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Studies program prepares you for a professional career in library and information science. The majority of employers require an ALA-accredited Master’s for professional positions. ALA accreditation indicates that the program meets the ALA Standards for accreditation of master's programs in Library & Information Studies. ALA accreditation is not a "rubber stamp." There is considerable variation among ALA-accredited programs. Prospective students are encouraged to contact programs directly for specific information.
