Technical Services work requires constant learning, whether due to organizational change, software migration, or new standards, rules or practices in the field. Teaching and learning new skills can be rewarding, but also intimidating, frustrating, and time consuming. Department managers often perceive a lack of motivation when attempting training programs. Often libraries turn to staff development programs to improve morale, for example mindfulness, team building or work-life balance. Is there a role that learning for the job can play in this area? Can training that benefits the department also benefit the employee?

Learning Outcomes

In this e-Forum, attendees will explore:

  • Relationship between job training and job satisfaction
  • Ways to organize a successful training program
  • Using instructional design methods to improve technical services training
