Many people in libraries hold middle management positions, and it can be a tough spot to be in. Often they are a go-between bridging administration and library staff who complete the daily work that keeps the library running.  Middle managers are pulled between day-to-day operations and administrative responsibilities, not situated clearly in one space or the other. They need to support those who report to them, often fielding their complaints, concerns, and emotions, but may be limited in the amount of power they actually have to address those concerns or affect change. This is a position for which many librarians are not adequately trained or prepared, and once in a middle management position the amount of support they receive can vary widely. In this webinar, the presenter will discuss some of the major challenges associated with this role, as well as the opportunities, and strategies for improving communication, employing emotional agility, maintaining job satisfaction, and avoiding burnout.
