The scholarship is to be given once a year to a Masters degree candidate in Library Science who intends to work professionally with media collections in libraries. The purpose is to provide financial assistance and encouragement to developing media librarians. This scholarship honors the legacy of deg farrelly and his commitment to media librarianship, and the preservation of and access to media materials - a commitment shared by both AMIA (Association of Moving Image Archivists, an organization not affiliated with ALA) and FMRT (the ALA Film & Media Round Table).
Award and Frequency
This award is given out on an annual basis.
Eligibility
- A brief written statement demonstrating the applicant’s interest in media history, production, or preservation through active participation in film programs, film or video festivals, and/or support of media preservation and access.
- Superior overall scholarship in a Masters Degree program in Library Science (minimum 3.0 GPA, transcript required).
- Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Masters Degree program in Library Science with an anticipated graduation date a year or later from receipt of the award.
