Year Began: 1978

First awarded in 1978, the ACRL Academic/Research Librarian of the Year award is a prestigious designation recognizing outstanding achievements among academic or research librarians. Individuals are recognized for service to the profession through ACRL or related organizations, significant and influential research related to academic or research library services, publications or theoretical writings that contribute to academic or research library development, and/or planning and implementing a high-quality academic or research library program. This award was on hiatus from 2022-2025. Nominations for the 2027 ACRL Awards will open in Fall 2026.
