The Jesse H. Shera Award for Distinguished Published Research is given to the author(s) of a research article published in English during the previous calendar year and nominated by any member of LRRT or by editors of research journals in the field of library and information studies.
The award was initiated in 1975 by the Library Research Round Table and originally called, The LRRT Award. In 1987, the award was named in honor of Jesse H. Shera, noted librarian researcher.

- All entries must be research articles published in English during the 2025 calendar year.
- All nominated articles must relate in at least a general way to library and information studies. Any research method is acceptable.
- Authors of nominated articles need not be LRRT members.
- Articles by joint investigators are eligible, as are articles generated as a result of a research grant or other source of funding.
Research articles will be judged on the following points:
o Definition of the research problem;
o Application of research methods;
o Clarity of the reporting of the research;
o Significance of the conclusions, as judged by the Committee.
Calls for nominations are released in October with deadlines typically in mid-December. While nominations are generally solicited from journal editors, nominations are invited from all in the profession, including self-nominations. Please see Guidelines on the official Shera Award page for details.

Notifications of awards are made in March or April.
