SEATTLE — Katherine Paterson is the winner of the 2013 Laura Ingalls Wilder Award honoring an author or illustrator, published in the United States, whose books have made a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children. Her numerous works include “Bridge to Terabithia” (Crowell, 1977), “Jacob Have I Loved” (Crowell, 1980) and “The Great Gilly Hopkins” (Crowell, 1978).
SEATTLE — Katja Torneman, producer of “Anna, Emma and the Condor,” is the 2013 recipient of the Andrew Carnegie Medal for excellence in children’s video. The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during the ALA Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 25– 29, in Seattle.
SEATTLE — David Diaz, illustrator of “Martín de Porres: The Rose in the Desert,” and Benjamin Alire Sáenz, author of “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe,”are the 2013 winners of the Pura Belpré Illustrator Award and Author Award, honoring Latino authors and illustrators whose work best portrays, affirms and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in children’s books.
SEATTLE — Author and illustrator Ethan Long is the 2013 recipient of the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for “Up, Tall and High!” published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons, a division of Penguin Young Readers Group. The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during the ALA Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 25 – 29 in Seattle.
SEATTLE — Dial Books, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA) Inc is the winner of the 2013 Mildred L. Batchelder Award for “My Family for the War.” The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during the ALA Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 25 – 29, in Seattle.
SEATTLE— Katherine Applegate, author of “The One and Only Ivan,”and Jon Klassen, illustrator of” This Is Not My Hat” are the 2013 winners of the John Newbery and Randolph Caldecott Medals, the most prestigious awards in children’s literature.
CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), seeks a member content editor for its upcoming Advocacy website and accompanying newsletter. The mission of the new site is to educate youth services librarians on the importance of advocacy and to provide them with tools to assist in articulating their own value within the library profession and community. Applications for this position are due Feb. 1, 2013.
CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced that John Rocco will participate in a Caldecott 75th Anniversary Facebook Forum at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Rocco won a Caldecott Honor in 2012 for his picture book "Blackout" (Disney-Hyperion).
CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is now accepting applications for mini-grants intended to prepare libraries to incorporate Día into their existing programs, throughout the year. Libraries will use these mini-grants to initiate a Día Family Book Club Program. These mini-grants are part of ALSC’s Everyone Reads @ your library grant, funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, has added more outstanding websites to Great Websites for Kids, its online resource containing hundreds of links to exceptional websites for children.
The newly added sites are:
