CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is seeking applications for its third biennial “Bill Morris Seminar: Book Evaluation Training,” to be held on Friday, January 24, 2014, prior to the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia. This invitational seminar supports and honors William C. Morris’ dedication to connecting librarians and children with excellent children’s books.

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Grants Administration Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2014 Penguin Young Readers Group Awards. This award, made possible by an annual gift from Penguin Young Readers Group, provides a $600 stipend to up to four children's librarians to attend their first ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced that the 2014 May Hill Arbuthnot Committee has chosen the University of Minnesota's Children's Literature Research Collections as the site for the 2014 May Hill Honor Lecture featuring Andrea Davis Pinkney.
CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Special Collections and Bechtel Fellowship Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2014 Louise Seaman Bechtel Fellowship. The Bechtel Fellowship is designed to allow qualified children’s librarians to spend a total of four weeks or more reading and studying at the Baldwin Library of Historical Children’s Literature, a part of the George A.
CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced the beginning of a new mentoring program this fall. The program, which is open to members and non-members, is intended to help build a new collection of leaders in the field of library service to children. Applications are now open for both mentors and mentees. Registration ends on Friday, August 30, 2013.
CHICAGO — The most prestigious award for children's book illustration in the U.S., the Caldecott Medal has been presented annually by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, since 1938.
CHICAGO — Updated to include the 2013 award and honor books, “The Newbery and Caldecott Awards: A Guide to the Medal and Honor Books, 2013 Edition,” published by ALA Editions, gathers together the books deemed most distinguished in American children's literature and illustration since the inception of the renowned prizes.
CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Friends of ALSC have awarded two scholarships to the 2013 ALSC Preconference, A Wild Ride: 75 Years of the Caldecott Medal. The winners of the scholarship are Pamela Mann, children's services coordinator, Morgan County (W.Va.) Public Library, and Angela Reynolds, head of youth services, Annapolis Valley Regional Library, Bridgetown, Nova Scotia.
