CHICAGO The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has announced that the LGBT Center of Raleigh Library in Raleigh, N.C. is the recipient of the 2014 Light the Way: Library Outreach to the Underserved Grant. As the winner of the grant, the library will receive $3,000 for its LGBT Family Story Time project.

FILADELFIA — Yuyi Morales, ilustradora de “Niño Wrestles the World” y Meg Medina, autora de  “Yaqui Delgado Wantsto Kick Your Ass,” fueron seleccionadas como las ganadoras del Premio por Ilustración Pura Belpré 2014, y el Premio al Autor Pura Belpré 2014 respectivamente. La distinción rinde homenaje a los escritores e ilustradores hispanos cuyas obras constituyen el mejor reflejo, afirmación y celebración de la experiencia cultural hispana en la literatura infantil.

PHILADELPHIA — Kate DiCamillo, author of “Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures,” and Brian Floca, illustrator of “Locomotive,” are the 2014 winners of the John Newbery and Randolph Caldecott Medals, the most prestigious awards in children’s literature.

PHILADELPHIA — Author and illustrator Greg Pizzoli is the 2014 recipient of the Theodor Seuss Geisel Award for “The Watermelon Seed” published by Disney Hyperion Books – An Imprint of Disney Book Group. The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during the ALA Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 24 – 28 in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — Paul R. Gagne and Melissa Reilly Ellard of Weston Woods Studios, Inc., producers of “Bink&Gollie: Two for One” are the 2014 recipients of the Andrew Carnegie Medal for excellence in children’s video. The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during the ALA Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 24– 28, in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — Susan L. Roth and Cindy Trumbore and illustrator Susan L. Roth of “Parrots over Puerto Rico,” were named the winners of the 2014 Robert F. Sibert Medal for the most distinguished informational book for children published in 2013. The award was announced today by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), during the ALA Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 24 – 28 in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA — Listening Library, an imprint of the Random House Audio Publishing Group, producer of the audiobook, “Scowler”  has won the 2014 Odyssey Award for Excellence in Audiobook Production. The award announcement was made today during the American Library Association (ALA) Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 24 – 28 in Philadelphia.
