This nationally recognized initiative emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds by linking children and families to multicultural books, stories, and other library resources.

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has selected its 2021 Notable Children’s Books. The list of titles, published in the previous year, includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry and picture books of special interest, quality, creativity and value to children 14 years of age and younger.

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to announce its new Book & Media Awards Shelf, a database driven website presenting a collection of books, recordings, apps, websites, and other media for children (birth to age 14).

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has organized a virtual one-day event, “A Celebration of Illustration!” This event will take place Friday, May 14, 2021 and will feature key children's book creators, leaders in children's librarianship, and many others! Attendees will enjoy panel discussions on current issues and trends in illustration with award-winning creators, illustration-based continuing education programs, and more.

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is pleased to announce two membership funding opportunities for students and library workers who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or a Person of Color (BIPOC). Prioritizing BIPOC students and library workers directly supports ALSC’s strategic objective of increasing the intentional recruitment and retention of a diverse membership, while reducing barriers to participation.

Elizabeth (Liz) McChesney is the 2021 recipient of the Association for Library Service to Children’s (ALSC) Distinguished Service Award. This prestigious award honors an individual who has made significant contributions to library service to children and to ALSC.

The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has announced that Madison (OH) Public Library is the recipient of the 2021 ALSC/Candlewick Press "Light the Way: Outreach to the Underserved" Grant. As the recipient of the grant, the library will receive $3,000 to engage tweens by making weekly visits to mobile home parks, using snacks and video games to develop a deeper connection to reading.

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has selected its 2021 list of Notable Children’s Recordings. The list includes recordings for children 14 years of age and younger of especially commendable quality that demonstrate respect for young people’s intelligence and imagination; exhibit venturesome creativity; and reflect and encourage the interests of children and young adolescents in exemplary ways.
