Advocating for K-12 Resources During Covid-19

Children's librarians are experts in supporting K-12 learning and work side-by-side with schools to support youth and families. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, however, school partners are now challenged by a lack of staffing, resources, time and attention. What can your library do to support educators more effectively, locally and state-wide? Dakota County Library's Youth Services Manager Renee Grassi will share strategies and ideas you can utilize to help advocate for K-12 learning resources to school librarians, teachers and other education professionals to more equitably serve youth and families in your communities.

Learning Outcomes

Webinar attendees will:
- acquire 3-5 strategies for outreach to local and state-wide educational partners.
- learn 3-5 virtual program ideas that Dakota County Library implemented to support county- and state-wide educational professionals. 
- acquire 3-5 strategies for culturally-relevant and co-created communication for educational partners.
- identify and build awareness of local- and state-wide organizations and educational partners who serve and support youth and families.

Children's librarians, Children's and Youth Servicse Managers, public library staff who work with youth and familiels, library managers and library directors who oversee children's/youth servicse. 


Author, blogger, speaker and trainer Renee Grassi is a recognized library leader and advocate for youth and families. In 2012, she was named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker for her work creating programs and services for youth with disabilities and their families. Renee has been a member of the ALSC Committee for Special Populations and their Caregivers and was a regular ALSC blogger for more than eight years. Most recently, she contributed as a co-author of ALSC's Virtual Storytime Services Guide. Renee graduated from Dominican University's GSLIS program and has worked in public libraries for over thirteen years. Renee is currently the Youth Services Manager at Dakota County Library in Minnesota. Learn more at
