Library Service to Underserved Children and Their Caregivers Committee

Charge

To advocate for underserved children and their caregivers. To offer leadership in discovering, developing, and disseminating information about library materials, programs, and facilities for underserved children and their caregivers; to develop and maintain guideline for selection useful and relevant materials; and to discuss, develop, and suggest ways in which library education programs can prepare librarians to serve these children and their caregivers.

The Library Service to Underserved Children and Their Caregivers Committee consists of two co-chairs appointed in alternating years, plus 5 members. (2 co-chairs +5)

Established in 1964 at the request of the ALSC Board of Directors.

  • Process committees (non-award committees) are appointed in early spring (Jan-May)
  • Award and evaluation committees are appointed in early fall (July-Oct)
  • Replacement positions pop up and are filled throughout the year (ongoing)

The Vice-President/President-Elect begins making his/her process committee appointments in February/March. In August/September, after being seated as President, he/she will then begin filling fall appointments.
