Career Profiles in Cataloging, Metadata, and Related Fields

Seeking your first or a different career in metadata/cataloging/technical services? Look at these career profiles for inspiration and ideas from your colleagues in the field!

This resource is the result of a project completed by the ALCTS CaMMS Recruitment and Mentoring Committee. The idea originated during a group discussion that took place at the 2016 ALA Midwinter Meeting. Each profile consists of a free-text survey response submitted by a volunteer willing to discuss their work. These were distributed and completed during the spring and summer of 2017. It is our hope that these will be of assistance for those considering careers in cataloging, metadata, and related occupations. This includes everyone from those just entering the field, as well as experienced professionals seeking to learn more about available opportunities. LIS educators and mentors are particularly encouraged to share links to the site with those whom it may be of interest. We would like to express our gratitude to all those who submitted surveys, as well as all committee members who assisted during various stages of the project.
