Policy and Planning Committee

Charge

To coordinate the policy and planning activities of the acquisition section; to make recommendations regarding as policy questions at the request of the as executive committee; to consider acquisitions issues as a whole, including long-range section goals and objectives as well as new areas of interest; to review each standing section-level committee concerning its relevance to and success in forwarding the goals and objectives of the section.

Origin

Established in 1957 as an RTSD committee.  The committee continued within the Resources Section, with a revised function statement in February 1977, June 1983, and January 1989.  The name was changed in January 1989 from the Policy and Research Committee.  Transferred to the Acquisitions Section in 1991. 

Get Involved

ALA values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on the AS Policy and Planning Committee. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the meetings and activities of the committee; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other committees by filling out an application form. Appointments take place once a year, during the spring. Committee service usually begins following Annual Conference, about July 1.  See the ALCTS Volunteer Page.
