Midwinter Games 2015

2015 ALA Midwinter Meeting in ChicagoGet in the spirit and test your ALCTS knowledge with the ALCTS Trivia Contest, starting January 14. And while you're in Chicago, have even more fun by participating in the ALCTS Photo Scavenger Hunt!

ALCTS Trivia Contest

From Wednesday, January 14 through Friday, January 23, ALCTS will post one trivia question per day at 2 p.m. EST to both Twitter and Facebook. You have until midnight EST to follow the question link to a Google Form and submit your answer.

An extra bonus question will be asked on both Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m. EST, which you'll need to answer before midnight EST. The correct answer for each question will be posted the following day along with the next trivia question.

For each question, everyone who answers correctly before midnight will have their name put in a drawing to win one of many fabulous prizes, i.e., if you answer every question correctly, your name will be put in 12 times; however, you can only win one prize). The drawing will be held at the ALCTS New Member Interest Group meeting (10:30 a.m. on Saturday, McCormick Place West W471) but you need not be present to win. Prizes will be redeemed through Julie Reese in the ALCTS Office.

To play, follow ALCTS at twitter.com/alcts or at facebook.com/alcts. You could win:

  • Grand Prize: Three-night hotel stay during the 2015 ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco
  • 2nd Place: Free individual registration for all ALCTS webinars held between March. 1, 2015 - Aug. 31, 2015
  • 3rd Place: $225 ALCTS Continuing Education Certificate to use towards one ALCTS preconference, two ALCTS web courses, or six ALCTS webinars
  • 4th Place: one complete set (five volumes) of the Sudden Selector's Guides
  • 5th Place: Breakfast with the three ALCTS Presidents (past, present, future) and ALCTS Executive Director at the 2015 Annual Conference, Saturday, June 27

ALCTS Photo Scavenger Hunt

From Saturday, January 31 through Monday, February 2, score points by snapping photos of all the great people, places, and things going on around you at Midwinter in Chicago. Programs, meetings, booths, authors, Chicago landmarks, and even fellow ALA-ers are on the photo list. Score the most points and you can win one of our collection of fabulous prizes:

  • Grand Prize: 2015 ALA Midwinter registration reimbursement
  • 2nd Place: $125 ALA Store voucher
  • 3rd Place: $50 Google Play gift card
  • 4th Place: ALCTS CE Certificate good for one free individual registration to an ALCTS webinar
  • 5th Place: $25 Starbucks gift card

To play:

  • Find the list of scavenger items to be photographed posted to the ANMIG ALA Connect page as well as the Flickr group discussion board.
  • Snap photos of items from the scavenger hunt list.
  • Post your photos to Flickr, Twitter, or Instagram, and TAG them with #alamw15 and #alctsgames. Don't split up your photos between the different services as points will only be tabulated for one service per person, i.e., If you post half your photos to Twitter and half your photos to Instagram, only half your photos will count towards your score.
  • If using Flickr, join the ALCTS at Midwinter 2015 Flickr Group and ADD your photos to the group.
  • All photos must be easily identifiable (photos of people should include name badges, photos of places should include distinguishing features or signs). Adding a caption describing your photo would help us greatly when tabulating points.

Winners will be decided by point totals and any ties will be broken by random drawing. All photos must be posted and, if using Flickr, added to the ALCTS at ALA Midwinter 2015 group by February 3 at midnight EST. Winners will be announced shortly after Midwinter and prizes will be redeemed through Julie Reese in the ALCTS Office.

For questions, contact Emily Whitmore in the ALCTS office at ewhitmore@ala.org or 312-280-5038.
