Session 3 in the series, “From MARC to Linked Data” will focus on preparing for MARC data transition, with a focus on embedding HTTP URI in MARC data.The subfields that are defined to record HTTP URI, such as $0, $4, etc., will be covered.  Also discussed will be how to transform revised MARC data in BIBFRAME via available transformation tools.The process attempts to show that the preparation of moving MARC data toward a linked data environment, i.e. BIBFRAME, is iterative.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this session, attendees:

  • Will be able to use MarcEdit to begin process batch data inserting URI in $0
  • Will be able to transform enhanced MARC records into BIBFRAME

*This is an intermediate course intended for those with a basic understanding of bibliographic records and linked data.

Presenters

Jackie Shieh is the Resource Description Coordinator for George Washington University Libraries. Jackie currently chairs the PCC URI in MARC Task Group. She previously worked as the Original Cataloger for Electronic Resources for University of Virginia Library and as the Team Leader for Special Collections and Projects, University of Michigan Library. Jackie holds an MSLS from Catholic University of America and an MA from the University of Virginia.
