ALCTS Strategic Plan 2019

Adopted June 21, 2019


This one-year strategic plan was developed by the ALCTS Planning Committee and approved by the Board of Directors at the 2019 ALA Annual Conference. The plan addresses the division’s present direction while encouraging a culture that allows all members to contribute to their full potential.

I. Strengthen advocacy for equitable access to and preservation of resources and information for all users

II. Assess current divisional programs and services

  1. Work with LITA and LLAMA to advance a new division
  2. Participate in discussions with the Steering Committee for Organizational Effectiveness (SCOE), and explore how ALCTS fits into its work
  3. Identify opportunities to streamline the work of the division and its sections to prepare for future organizational changes

III. Strengthen our diversity and inclusiveness

  1. Incorporate diversity and inclusiveness in assessment of program proposals
  2. Identify and address organizational barriers that hinder increased diversity, equity, and inclusivity in division participation (e.g. cost, awareness, time, technology)
  3. Enhance recruitment, mentoring, networking, and training to build a more diverse and inclusive membership and leadership for the Association
  4. Reach out to historically under-represented groups to increase awareness and encourage their participation

IV. Develop and promote Association activities in multiple formats to increase opportunities for virtual and year-round participation
