Subcommittees

1. Content Management Subcommittee

   Charge: Monitor the development of the content management system (CMS) of the ALA Website, addressing ALA's relationship with the CMS vendor, the architecture of the site, construction and generation of URLs within the site, and the development of policy issues in relation to ALA units and ALA staff who are providing content to the system. The subcommittee will define the scope of the problems in the assigned areas, provide suggested courses of action or recommendations, and identify any additional resources required. The subcommittee will report all significant recommendations to the full Website Advisory Committee for review.

2. Maintenance and Archives Subcommittee

   Charge: Monitor maintenance and preservation issues of the ALA Website, addressing how to keep content current, continuing access to older content, the development of a plan for migrating content to an archive, backup routines, and the hardware and software infrastructure for maintaining high accessibility and security. The subcommittee will define the scope of the problems in the assigned areas, provide suggested courses of action or recommendations, and identify any additional resources required. The subcommittee will report all significant recommendations to the full Website Advisory Committee for review.

3. Membership Subcommittee

   Charge: Monitor membership issues of the ALA Website, addressing audience orientation to resolve different needs of ALA member and the general public, privacy, and tools within the site to assist the Association function in virtual space. The subcommittee will define the scope of the problems in the assigned areas, provide suggested courses of action or recommendations, and identify any additional resources required. The subcommittee will report all significant recommendations to the full Website Advisory Committee for review.

4. Usability Subcommittee

   Charge: Monitor usability, design, and accessibility issues of the ALA Website, addressing the development of a style manual, usability testing, the search engine and site map, and appropriate access standards and implementation. The subcommittee will define the scope of the problems in the assigned areas, provide suggested courses of action or recommendations, and identify any additional resources required. The subcommittee will report all significant recommendations to the full Website Advisory Committee for review.
