Summary
ALA and the Internet2 K20 Initiative workshop explored possibilities for collaborative research and demonstration projects involving libraries as access and service providers for Internet2 applications. The workshop brought together representatives from the public, academic and special libraries along with experts in advanced networking, and distance learning specialists. A few international experts were also invited to participate.
The goal was to produce a research and action agenda to examine the technical and organizational aspects of delivering advanced digital services through libraries and similar community access providers and to suggest initial approaches to delivering these services. To that end, the Advisory Committee planned the workshop agenda in detail to provide the background and direction for the participants to discuss the issues necessary.
The report from the workshop was submitted to the National Science Foundation for their use in planning future projects and directions. It is available as a pdf download:
The Advisory Committee also welcomes suggestions/recommendations for the workshop and its content. Please send your comments and questions to Bob Gillespie (Coordinator and Editor), Elaine Albright or Louis Fox (Co-chairs).
This workshop was made possible by a grant made by the National Science Foundation.
