Many units of ala have developed documents that give advice to librarians on various aspects of library service. Often such documents are called "standards " or "guidelines". The "ALA Standards Manual" gives definitions of those terms, describes the authority of units to develop them, and includes advice on format and related sources. Topics within this "Professional Tools" section of the ALA Web page are organized so that "Standards and Guidelines" is one of the subheadings, if appropriate. Also, many of ALA's 11 divisions have a "Professional Tools" section on their Web sites where standards and guidelines are listed.
