Promoting library staff

  • Arizona State University East Library ran a publicity campaign in fall 2001 using @ your library.  The library produced posters and bookmarks with pictures of reference librarians and the “ultimate search engine” slogan.  The library is mainly an electronic library (they don’t have their own building). The library’s proposed theme for National Library Week 2002 was “Person-to-Person @ your library.”  Throughout the week, library staff emphasized the personal service that library staff offers to ASE’s students and also to the students of a nearby community college, which the library also serves.  Each day of programming ran under different sub-themes, such as, “Appearing Live and in Person @ your library,” a chance for students and faculty to meet library staff; “Frequently Seen @ your library,” a day to recognize faculty that use the library and to encourage faculty members that don’t to use the library; and “Research Help—Person-to-Person @ your library,” a program that promoted the library’s virtual reference desk.

General Outreach

  • The Richard Bland College Library in Petersburg, Va., continued its involvement in the @ your library campaign at the start of its 2002 school year with the theme, “Let us amaze you @ your library.”  The theme was printed on flyers, brochures and other promotional items to help raise awareness of the library’s resources.  Last year the library used the theme, “Reeling you in @ your library” to promote the library.  It used the slogan throughout the Web site and created monthly programming based around the theme.  The September 2001 theme was “Reeling you in with banned books @ your library.” December’s was “Reeling you in with gifts of literacy @ your library.”  The overlaying theme for the whole year was, “Reeling you in with 40 years of history @ your library” to celebrate the library’s 40th anniversary.  The library incorporated this and another slogan, “Reeling you in with 40 years of learning @ your library” onto many promotional items, as well, such as pencils, cups, sticky notes, and folders. The library also changed the title of its regular column in the student newspaper to “@ your library,” incorporating @ your library into the text, too, e.g., “Preview of coming attractions @ your library.”  It also titled a booklet for high school principals and guidance counselors, “Information @ your library.”
