ALA invites paraprofessionals, support staff and library workers with any job description or classification to become members. ALA works for support staff by advocating for your concerns – library funding, access to job banks, new professional education resources, and ongoing development for all library workers. ALA has worked steadily for inclusion of library workers in all types of libraries, from public and academic to school and special. Membership in ALA will ensure that you have access to the resources you need to pursue your career with a voice in the ongoing growth and development of the profession.

* Library Support Staff Membership (LSS) is available to those employed in library and information services or related activities that do not require a degree, state certification or is not managerial.
* LIBRARY SUPPORT STAFF INTERESTS ROUND TABLE (LSSIRT) is the area within ALA for addressing issues of concern to LSS including basic training programs, education, career development and job responsibilities.

Apply for LSS Membership online using a credit card or download a print ready application to pay by check.
Residents of Alabama, Kansas, Massachusetts, or New York are encouraged to apply for Joint Membership in both ALA and your state association for a discounted price of $58.00/year.
Your interests are represented by a number of ALA Divisions or Round Tables. You can join a Division or Round Table to align yourself with other library workers who have similar interests and goals. Our Library Support Staff Interests Round Table (LSSIRT) provides you with a way to become immediately involved, helping you to make the most of your membership. LSSIRT provides you an area within ALA to address the wide variety of issues that concern support staff. It fosters communication and networking among library workers. It is the vehicle for communicating about these issues to local, state, regional and national groups.
LSS Members enjoy the full rights, privileges and benefits of ALA membership. Attendance at the annual membership meeting, voting rights for ALA and your Divisions or Round Tables, and access to the ALA Members Forum discussion list are yours. Membership includes subscriptions to premier professional journals, discounts on conferences and continuing education opportunities, and discounts on ALA books and promotional materials. Health, dental, life and auto insurance are also available to ALA Library Support Staff members. You can review a full list of current Member Benefits.
