I. Revised Endowment Trustees’ Report – EBD #13.1.1
ALA Treasurer Teri Switzer reported that there was an error in the Endowment Trustees’ Report that was presented at the 2006 Annual Conference. Exhibit #5 of that report indicated that Ariel Capital realized a negative 2.0% return, when in reality it was a positive 2.9% return.
Financial Analyst Keith Brown is working to determine how the error occurred and how to prevent future errors. The corrected report has been posted to the Treasurer’s page on the ALA website and Ms. Switzer will send the corrected page to ALA Council.
II. Potential Speakers at the 2006 Annual Conference
The Board discussed possible speakers for the 2006 Annual Conference in New Orleans.
III. New Orleans Update
Mary Ghikas advised that the new FAQ has been posted to the Web. She reported that registration figures to-date are on pace with the 2004 Annual Conference in Orlando.
Michael Dowling provided an update on the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund and the Adopt-a-Library Program. He advised that so far over 200 individuals have signed up to work at the two Volunteer Days planned in New Orleans and his staff is investigating the possibility of organizing shorter-term projects (1/2 day or just a few hours) for those individuals whose schedules will not accommodate donating an entire day to volunteer work. There will be an area set aside probably on the exhibits floor where donors will be recognized.
