Petitions
Petitions are best delivered in person to legislators or decision-makers. You will need enough names to establish credibility. It will also help if the people delivering the petitions know the official or are prominent members of the community. Your petition message should be brief and clear to make it easy for people to read quickly and understand.

Ask Friends, trustees, faculty and students to help collect signatures.

Suggest public access to information as the topic of class discussions and community forums.

Take the petition to speaking engagements for members of the audience to sign.

Talk about the petition in media interviews.

Stage a demonstration at the library, at city hall or in some other highly visible location. Have petitions ready to sign or present.

Post copies on your community's electronic bulletin board and/or the library’s Web site.
