I. Introduction to Library Advocacy

If you know and love libraries, work in a library, or serve as a trustee or are a Friend, then you are your library’s best advocate.

America's libraries are central to our democracy. They preserve our past, inform our present and inspire our future. Now more than ever, libraries are necessary—and need our support.

While highly regarded, libraries often don’t enjoy the same passion as say, Harley motorcycles or Apple computers. That's why we need people like you to spread the word.

This goal of this toolkit is to help you deliver the library message in a way that makes an impact and that is comfortable and doable for you. Section I focuses on the basics. Section II provides more tools and tips for reaching out.

If you have questions or suggestions, we want to hear from you. Send e-mail to Library Advocacy Now! at advocacy@ala.org.

Thank you for spreading the word!
