Conference Placement Service

Welcome to the ALA Placement Service!

For more than 30 years, the American Library Association's Placement Service has provided opportunities for employers and job seekers to meet, network, and achieve success in reaching their employment goals.

In an effort to provide a more cohesive service, the American Library Association has been working to unite all of its employment sources.   These efforts were realized over the last year with the unveiling of our new job site, JobLIST.  It is designed to give employers and job seekers access to information on a year-round basis.

Because JobLIST is now fully operational, the Placement Service will no longer have its own independent job-listing site.   Job postings will now have to be placed on JobLIST at, and will be based on the rates  listed on the site.

We will continue to provide on site interviewing facilities, as well as career guidance workshops at the ALA conferences.

The Placement Center will be located in the convention center, and will operate during the following days and times at the 2008 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia, PA:

  Friday, January 11, 2008  12:00 Noon to 5:00 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 12          9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 13 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Monday, Jan. 14 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Job seekers should now register and search for jobs on the JobLIST web page.  All services are still free to job seekers.

There is no cost to register.  Registration is not required to view job information.  However, it is to the job seeker's advantage to do so.  It will give registered employers access to your resume information.  It will also allow for direct communication between you and the employer.

There will be an orientation for job seekers on Friday, January 11, 2008 from 11:30am to 12:00 Noon in the Placement Center.

If you need help getting your resume polished off, stop by the Placement Center while you are at conference.  The New Members Round Table provide resume critiquing service to conference attendees.  The service is free.

Employers who want to post job positions, should now post them on JobLIST.

Employers who want to review resumes of registered job seekers must have an active online ad on JobLIST.

Employers who want to use the on-site interviewing facilities must have an active ad placed on JobLIST at the time you schedule an interview.  To schedule interview space, you should first confirm the date and time of your interviews with candidates.  Then contact Placement staff for table assignment.  You can call Beatrice Calvin at 800/545-2433 ext. 4280 or send an email to You should be prepared to give the candidate's name, day and time of the interview.   You may also go to the Placement Center (starting Friday, 1/11) to get a table assignment.
