Katrina Disaster Relief Funds

The following Associations have established Disaster Relief Funds to aid libraries affected by Hurricane Katrina.  Additionally, some libraries are now accepting donations directly - click here to view the list.

ALA Hurricane Katrina Library Relief Fund - ALA has established the Hurricane Katrina Library Relief Fund to help raise funds to help rebuild libraries in Gulf Region. All funds will go to supporting the library relief efforts of the state associations. Contributions are tax deductible. For donations by check please make the check payable to 'ALA' and marking the funds for the ‘ALA Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund'. Louisiana Library Disaster Relief Fund - The Louisiana Library Association is accepting FINANCIAL DONATIONS ONLY at this time.  Please make checks payable to LLA-Disaster Relief, and mail to:

Mississippi Library Association - Friends of Mississippi Libraries, working with the Library Commission and MLA, has established a fund for donations to rebuild those MS libraries severely damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Tax-deductible donations can be made by sending your contributions to:

Texas Library Association Disaster Relief Fund - The Texas Library Association has collected donations for libraries in the Gulf Coast area. 

Michigan Library Association Campaign for the Gulf Coast Libraries - The Executive Board of the Michigan Library Association voted to institute a campaign to help restore library services to the victims of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast states.  100% of donations from Michigan residents will be accumulated and forwarded to those agencies actively involved in rebuilding public, school and academic library service in the affected areas. MLA will absorb all administrative costs, including credit card processing fees.  Michigan residents, please click on the link to be taken to the online donation form.

Church and Synagogue Library Associations  - The National Church Library Association (NCLA), the Church and Synagogue Library Association (CSLA), and the Catholic Library Association (CLA), together have established a relief fund to help rebuild affected library ministries.  Any church, parish, or synagogue library damaged by Hurricane Katrina will be eligible to receive money from this fund, regardless of denomination or affiliation. Library and religious support groups are invited to participate in this effort.

State Library of Louisiana - Financial donations for libraries affected by Hurricane Katrina may be sent to the Louisiana Library Foundation and they will forward the money to the appropriate library or community. To donate to a specific library, please indicate that and they will make sure the library gets it.
