Tools for the Librarian from the ALA Library

http://www.ala.org/librariantools

The ALA Library presents the following online tools to aid ALA members, librarians and library workers in accessing professional information.

  • The ALA Professional Tips Wiki provides a pathfinder to the rich resources within the ALA web site; gathers the ALA Library’s responses to the questions received from the field; and, perhaps most importantly, enables the library community to share new resources for advancing the practice of librarianship. Please register and contribute to the building of this resource.

  • The Librarian's E-Library is a customized search engine created via Google Co-Op, which searches over 125 key library knowledge web sites in order to better find and retrieve the information that library workers need to do their jobs better. Feel free to register with Google and volunteer to contribute to the building of this resource.

  • Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA) is a free online database provided by 2005-2006 ALA Library Champion, EBSCO Information Services, at:
    http://www.libraryresearch.com
As described by EBSCO: "This world-class bibliographic database provides coverage on subjects such as librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Delivered via the EBSCOhost platform, LISTA indexes more than 600 periodicals plus books, research reports, and proceedings. With coverage dating back to the mid-1960s, it is the oldest continuously produced database covering the field of information science."

  • Direct links to specific library organizations and associations can still be found on ALA Library Fact Sheet 29: Links to Library Web Resources.
