With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, economic instability, and public murders of multiple Black individuals (including Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd), our community has been and is going through trauma. We are committed to supporting Spectrum Scholars and providing multiple spaces for individuals to process, grieve, and express the ways these events and systems are impacting them as Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in LIS. Maria de Lurdy (Mari) Martinez (she/her/hers) is a 2015 Spectrum Scholar, and attended the leadership institute when ALA Annual was held in San Francisco. Michael Mungin (he/him/his) is a Research and Instruction Librarian serving University of Washington-Bothell and Cascadia College in Bothell, WA, about 15 minutes north of Seattle. Heather P. VanDyne (2018 Scholar) obtained her MLS at Emporia State University in May 2019. During that time she worked as a Children's Librarian at the Coffeyville Public Library in Coffeyville, Kansas, where she launched her bilingual storytime outreach program, visiting students and sharing Hispanic Culture as well as teaching them basic vocabulary.
