Kate Rojas has an exciting new role as a school librarian at Walter M. Senkow Elementary School in Glenolden, Pennsylvania- part of Upper Darby School District located outside of Philadelphia. This is her first full-time tenured position outside of library school. A Spectrum Scholar from 2013-2014, Kate graduated from the University of Illinois with a Master's of Library and Information Science in 2014. After library school, she stayed in Illinois an extra year (until December 2015) to become certified as a K-12 educator. Before moving into her current role, Kate worked as a long-term/extended substitute school librarian at Coopertown Elementary School in Bryn Mawr serving from March 2016 to June 2016 and began work at Senkow in August 2016. Kate currently resides in her native Philadelphia.

"Much of my role at Walter M. Senkow Elementary School is to build relationships with students," says Kate, "I am able to build stronger relationships with my students while also providing them with an opportunity to acquire library work experience." She started a Library Helpers program with her 4th and 5th-grade students to help make the library a more student-centered space.
