Kai Forsley interns with Wikimedia

Picture of Kai ForsleyKai Forsley, a 2015-2016 Spectrum Scholar, is pursuing a number of exciting projects during her final semester at San Jose State University. Kai is currently completing an internship at the Wikimedia Foundation (which administers Wikipedia).

"I’ve come to respect Wikipedia as an information source," Kai writes. "The Foundation wants to build bridges between Wikipedia resources, libraries and other verified primary information sources on the internet. My research may result in access to local library information being linked on every Wikipedia page. The Foundation really wants the input of information professionals. You can help by taking this survey!"

When she is not studying or working at Wikimedia, Kai works as the Volunteer Engagement Specialist for The Presidiio Trust, a national park, and serves as an active board member with Foster Youth Rising, an organization that provides scholarships to foster youth attaining higher education. Additionally, she has started a volunteer program consulting business called Volunteer Magic.

"I am most excited about becoming a credentialed information scientist because there are so many possibilities," reflects Kai on her expected graduation in May. "Though one of my goals is to become the director of a public library, I am also interested in the realm of information technology and how information scientists can play a positive role in how the public is getting (and using) information online."
