Describe yourself in three words:

Content content curator.

What are you reading (or listening to on your mobile device)?

Book reviews! I’ve been building our collections of graphic novels and popular books.

Describe ACRL in three words:

Our professional home.

What do you value about ACRL?

Many academic librarians are able to find a community through ACRL with their counterparts at other institutions.

I co-edited the ACRL book Teaching Information Literacy by Discipline: Using and Creating Adaptations of the Framework with Scott Libson. We found many of our chapter authors through ACRL. There are several chapters that illustrate how ACRL and RUSA sections have adapted the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education for different areas of study. It was a privilege to share the experiences and expertise of colleagues across the profession.

I am currently the chair of VLACRL, the College & Research Libraries Chapter of the Virginia Library Association. We provide professional development for academic librarians in the state. I recently attended the ACRL Chapters Council, and I was interested to learn about the variety of other state chapters.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

I lead the development and assessment of general collections at JMU Libraries. I collaborate with colleagues to develop, analyze, and promote collections. As the liaison librarian to History and Philosophy & Religion, I provide specialized research collections, consultations, and instruction.
