I value ACRL because it provides me with opportunities to collaborate with other LIS professionals on research, engagement ideas, and navigating Higher Education. ACRL creates spaces for conversations about real issues that impact the profession and work together towards solutions that empower our profession.
I serve as liaison librarian to the IU Indianapolis School of Social Work, the IU Indianapolis Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, as well as the Department of Labor Studies and our Military Connected Students.
As a "non-serious person" but serious Information Professional I show students that research and learning are fun. That literacy can go hand-in-hand with laughter, and we all have more to learn about everything. I love being the "approachable" librarian and am genuinely excited to listen to their research. I support people who want to make the world a better place and I value every single interaction.
As an academic librarian my work is more than research papers and instruction, it is about building a platform to support students in their professional and personal curiousity. Librarians are not gatekeepers - we are keyholders - opening doors to ideas and information. I love life long learning and am never afraid to say "I don't know, but we can figure it out together".
