Community, scholarship, inspiration.
Ever since I first joined ACRL as a graduate student, I’ve looked to the association for professional guidance and growth. I value ACRL’s documentation of principles, such as the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and the Standards for Libraries in Higher Education, for reflecting our shared ethos while also inviting critical dialogue of academic librarianship. As my involvement in ACRL has expanded, I’ve enjoyed giving back and making my own contributions to the association.
As a Research and Instruction Librarian for a small campus community of undergraduate students, I have created a scaffolded information literacy education program with specific student learning outcomes at key points of the general education and baccalaureate curricula. I am the primary selector for the library, actively involved in the development and maintenance of all our collections. I am particularly proud of establishing the graphic novels and non-fiction collection with books that circulate frequently on our campus and throughout the University. This past year, I founded a tabletop roleplaying workshop series called the D&D Academy. Students of all experience levels come together to share in their common interest of Dungeons & Dragons that they can continue to enjoy throughout their college experience and beyond.
Protecting students’ intellectual and physical space to connect with new ideas and each other is deeply meaningful to me. I am honored and grateful to be part of an amazing team that shares the vision of our library as a welcoming place where every student belongs.
