Collaborative, cooperative, community.
It is valuable to have a community of colleagues who understand the unique work of academic libraries and the challenges we face, who can also celebrate victories with you.
On a small staff we all participate in the work of instruction and research assistance and everything we do is outreach. I am thrilled to be able to help students and faculty with their research in varied areas of study and to teach information literacy through the lenses of everything from health science to philosophy. And, because librarians are faculty, I am able to participate in committee work to affect changes in curriculum and policies.
Academic librarianship is the best way to continually learn because as I provide assistance to students and faculty I learn a little about everything they are researching. There is energy and so much hope for the future on a University campus, it's hard to resist.
