Describe ACRL in three words:

Dynamic, evolving, inclusive.

What do you value about ACRL?

ACRL provides me with opportunities to connect with and learn from academic librarians from a range of institutions and backgrounds. This allows me to hone my skills and apply the knowledge I have learned to become a better librarian who positively impacts my library and on my campus.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

I believe it is my responsibility to make sure that I am working to make the campus, not just the library, a more just and inclusive place. As a librarian, I am at the front lines of combating racism, bigotry, and ethnocentrism by fostering curiosity, empathy, and social justice on campus. I do this through collection development decisions, my approach to instruction, promoting open educational resources (OER), hosting events that address these issues on campus, and continual improvement of my own cultural competences.

In your own words

My desire to become a librarian was driven by my desire to positively contribute to higher education. My position allows me to contribute to campus in myriad ways--through my library instruction, by helping faculty with research requests, serving on campus committees, and through my work as an OER champion on campus. It is truly the best job in the world!
