Describe yourself in three words:

Curious, hopeful, anxious.

What are you reading (or listening to on your mobile device)?

I just grabbed a bunch of new books today to pick between. I am deciding between and will kind of be reading all at the same time: Louise Penny's The Nature of the Beast, Lev Grossman's The Bright Sword, Dr. Jennifer Mullan's Decolonizing Therapy, Collin Elliott's Pox Romana, and Jonathan Rosen's The Best Minds. Wish me luck! I am also listening to The Black Bird Oracle by Deborah Harkness and Good Inside by Dr. Beck Kennedy.

Describe ACRL in three words:

A good start.

What do you value about ACRL?

Most of all, I value the parts of the sum. ACRL and ALA have brought so many incredible people into my life. Those people have helped to shape me personally and professionally, and for that I will always be grateful. ACRL is an opportunity, in so many ways, above all else.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

Library services and library professionals contribute to campus on so many levels. We are an essential connective tissue, and because of that, I find that I often contribute the most when I am not spending all my time in the library. Library services, values, and goals go with us wherever we are on our campuses and in our communities. I am working to be part of the communities here so that I can help create those connections.

In your own words

I am grateful for ACRL, and for me, the people are the point of ACRL. Collect them like they are Pokémon, just don't trap them in Poké Balls (that's false imprisonment or kidnapping). If you need to connect with someone, please reach out to me: dfife@coloradocollege.edu.
