ACRL offers me opportunities to expand my network and to grow professionally by developing skills and gaining knowledge in areas of librarianship that are new to me. In the Publications Coordinating Committee, I got to know editors of ACRL publications and learned about issues in academic publishing. As part of the publications team of the Student Learning and Information Literacy Committee, I gained experience in editing and leading webinars. In both committees I worked alongside other library personnel who are engaged and passionate. Plus, the professional staff in ACRL are very supportive and a joy to work with!
My role as a teaching and learning librarian focuses on students with minoritized identities, particularly first-generation, BIPOC, and low-income students. I teach course-embedded sessions and credit courses for a range of disciplines and support programs, create digital learning objects, and consult with students and faculty about their research. Beginning next year, I will also lead student outreach for the libraries. My goal is to make our campus libraries more welcoming, inclusive, and representative of our students.
As a librarian with mostly privileged identities, I find it imperative to engage in dismantling systems of oppression and work toward social justice and liberation for all library users and personnel.
