Describe yourself in three words:

Earnest, strategic, resilient.

What are you reading (or listening to on your mobile device)?

I have been re-reading old favorites from my bookshelves -- A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith, Stones from the River by Ursula Hegi, and Animal Farm by George Orwell (which was a pretty unsettling experience).

Describe ACRL in three words:

Principled, collaborative, impactful.

What do you value about ACRL?

From the beginning of my involvement with ACRL, I’ve felt a strong connection to librarians beyond my immediate professional circle. I’ve been inspired by their dedication, formed lasting friendships, and collaborated with them to strengthen the organization. Together, we’ve worked to expand opportunities for librarians to connect, and to streamline the processes for engaging with ACRL. I deeply value the individuals who invest their time, energy, and insight into building this organization that serves as a trusted resource and meets the evolving needs of the library community.

What do you as an academic librarian contribute to your campus?

As an academic librarian, I’m part of a team dedicated to teaching research skills and information literacy across a wide range of subjects. Our Research & Instructional Services unit has been reflecting on our role within the university, especially as generative artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into academic life. We view the teaching of critical thinking and informed decision-making as central to our mission. In this evolving landscape, we emphasize that these essential skills must be supported—rather than replaced—by new technologies.

In your own words

This is a time of both challenge and possibility for academic libraries. With so much change unfolding across higher education, it can be difficult to predict what the future will hold. In the midst of this uncertainty, our instruction librarians recently engaged in a thoughtful analysis of our program—reflecting on our strengths, identifying areas for growth, and considering both the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Based on that conversation, we are creating an action plan incorporating the steps we can take to bring about change. It was an uplifting experience as we found strength in focusing on what is within our control during uncertain times.
