ALA Divisions:
Curious, compassionate, driven.
I’ve been reading "An Unkindness of Ghosts" by Rivers Solomon and listening to Janelle Monae’s Dirty Computer on repeat. They pair great, I definitely recommend it!
Collaborative, supportive, innovative.
I really value the array of opportunities there are to learn, connect with colleagues, and hone your expertise. Whether it is through webinars, articles, books, twitter chats, or one of the many subdivisions, there is something for everybody. In particular, I’ve appreciated the collection development resources provided by the WGSS, have heavily utilized the ACRL IL Sandbox, and have enjoyed both leading and participating in the webinars offered by the Literatures in English and Instruction Sections.
As a research, instruction, & outreach librarian I co-lead our information literacy efforts and have been fortunate to be a part of fostering campus conversations on race, immigration, and other important issues through our institution’s One Read for Racial Justice Program. We are gearing up for our next One Read with Shannon Gibney’s book, "Dream Country." I’m very excited! I’ve also played a leading role in digital humanities efforts around our campus through instruction, advising faculty, and collaborative research. One of the most rewarding projects I’ve worked on so far has been collaborating with an English professor whose class creates digital stories to share their immigrant or refugee experiences. I feel quite lucky to work with such amazing & inspiring students!
I love all the opportunities I get to learn new skills, work with students, staff, and faculty, and lead initiatives that promote inclusion and build community. I enjoy being a part of the research process whether that is through guiding students, collaborating with colleagues, or diving into my own projects. There are many paths you can take as an academic librarian and I love being able to explore and discover.
