Charge
To provide a forum for discussion of current trends, practices, and challenges related to working with world languages, vernacular resources, and linguistics materials in academic libraries. To provide a supportive network facilitating mentorship, idea sharing, and collaboration on language topics among librarians with diverse functions and specializations. To highlight the importance of academic libraries' language collections and services both on campus and in the broader community.

Origin
The ACRL Language and Linguistics Interest Group was established by the ACRL Board at the 2026 ALA Annual Conference. The interest group was previously named the Language and Linguistics Discussion Group, which was established at the 2020 ALA Midwinter Meeting.
